Whether it's the lack of star power, boring theme weeks or the strange influx in faux-sexual tension amongst the judges (Kara and Simon mainly but I think that Ellen has a thing for the Dawg) American Idol just isn't the same. Ratings are dropping and, outside of Crystal Bowersox, nobody really interests me this season; and perhaps, maybe the most logical and simple reason is - the show has just run it's course.
The thing is, many, many reality shows have hit this point in their day and a trick a lot of them have used to spice things up is an Allstar competition. Survivor has done it, so has Road Rules and I assume other shows will follow (Brett Michael's Rock of Love Allstars - Now With More Diseases!) However, where this hasn't really interested me on other shows, I think an American Idol Allstars would be incredible.
Granted this would never happen, because the true stars and their labels (I think all the big ones are still on 19) wouldn't be thrilled about getting critiqued, but think of this line-up:
- Kelly Clarkson
- Carrie Underwood
- Chris Daughtry
- Jennifer Hudson
- Clay Aiken
- Kris Allen
- Adam Lambert
- Katherine McPhee
- Jordin Sparks
- David Cook
- David Archuleta
- Taylor Hicks
- Kimberley Locke
So, after Taylor Hicks gets eliminated in the first week, this show would be intense! Same deal as Idol now, except we would crown the ultimate Idol.
Who do you think it would be?
I would say it is between: Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Daughtry. I think I would, especially after seeing her live, pick Carrie as the winner followed by Kelly Clarkson.

Well, if you want to judge by sales you might be right. But if you would rather judge by talent, which I do, then the winner would be Taylor Hicks. No one has ever received as many votes as he did and no other has ever been on a higher rated show.
No matter how it came out , he is the best, always was, always will be. Love his pre AI albums and his post ones as well.
My all-time favorite (although I've only watched maybe 2 seasons) has to be Kelly Clarkson, but my second favorite is definitely Chris Daughtry. I would LOVE to see a show of all of the past winners! I think that's an awesome idea. I would probably watch it, even though I don't watch the show itself.
